the held mother

Bespoke postpartum midwifery care centred on the healing, nourishment and holding of the mother

You've thought carefully about your pregnancy. You've prepared for your birth. You've considered who you want beside you, how you want to be cared for, and how you want your baby to enter the world.

Your care after birth deserves just as much intentional preparation.

The Held Mother offers six weeks of holistic postpartum care through private midwifery support for women who want something more during the weeks following birth.

Enjoy eight visits in your home, each lasting at least two hours together.

It's time to recover. Time to ask questions. Time to be nourished. Time to be supported as you get to know your baby. And a midwife who truly knows and supports you both.

Postpartum should never be navigated alone.

Imagine

You don't need to drag your freshly postpartum body out of the house with a newborn to wait for a brief appointment.

Your midwife comes to you.

You don’t need to clean the house.

You don’t need to get dressed.

You don’t need to have it all together.

There’s time to explore everything you need.

To check how your body is healing.

To weigh and assess your baby.

To sit beside you while you breastfeed.

To talk about your birth.

To answer all the questions that have surfaced since our last visit.

To notice the things you might not have realised you needed support with.

But your care isn't limited to the clinical side of postpartum:

I bring you nourishing food and snacks tailored for nourishment for mothers.

I prepare herbal support for you.

I teach you to bind your belly and show you how to use castor oil packs and womb moxa.

I hold your baby while you shower, eat, or simply take a moment for yourself.

I can even fold the washing so you don’t have to think about it.

There is no standard visit because we’re not working from a checklist. We’re working around you.

The Held Mother brings together comprehensive postpartum care from an experienced midwife with the practical, nourishing, and traditional support that women have received after birth for generations.

I'm interested

Meaningful postpartum care cannot be condensed into one or two appointments.

What you need in the first few days will be different from what you need a month in.

At the beginning, we might focus on feeding, bleeding, your baby’s weight, your milk coming in, pain, and early physical recovery.

A month later, you may be contemplating your pelvic floor, your baby’s development, your partner returning to work, your emotional well-being, or questions you didn’t know you would have before your baby arrived.

With eight visits across six weeks, I have the opportunity to really get to know you.

I know what your recovery looked like last week.

I know how your baby has been feeding.

I know what we’ve been working on. I know what matters to you.

Plus, if you need more support, there is flexibility to add additional visits.

Your needs are at the centre of our journey.

Midwifery support, nourishment, and practical support are woven together in harmony.

Depending on what you need, your care may include:

  • Maternal postpartum assessments and physical recovery support
  • Newborn assessments, weight, and development
  • Breastfeeding and infant feeding support
  • Birth reflection and space to process your experience
  • Pelvic floor, abdominal, and physical recovery support
  • Emotional well-being and adjustment to motherhood
  • Postpartum nutrition and nourishment
  • Womb moxa
  • Belly binding
  • Herbal postpartum support
  • Castor oil packs
  • Herbal baths and pelvic steaming
  • Mothercrafting and babywearing
  • Baby holding while you shower, eat, or rest
  • Light practical support when another pair of hands is what you need the most
  • Education, reassurance, and clinical guidance throughout your first six weeks

Your care is shaped around what you need, when you need it.

Closing the chapter:

If it feels right for you, our final visit can include a Closing of the Bones ceremony. This beautiful ritual marks the end of your early postpartum, honours everything your body has gone through, and acknowledges your transition into motherhood.

The Held Mother is for the woman who...

  • Has thought beyond birth and knows she wants to protect her postpartum.
  • Values continuity and seeks to know the person accompanying her in those first weeks.
  • Wants clinical reassurance without feeling rushed, dismissed, or processed.
  • Understands that support doesn’t need to be earned through struggle.
  • Doesn’t want to spend her postpartum proving how quickly she can return to normal.
  • Values nourishment, rest, physiology, and traditional postpartum wisdom alongside evidence-based care.
  • Recognizes how important her postpartum experience is for her future health and knows she is worth caring for too.

I intentionally care for only a small number of women at a time so that each family receives the time, energy, and devotion this kind of care deserves.

If this resonates with you, I recommend reaching out during pregnancy to discuss availability around your estimated due date.

The first 40 days shape the next 40 years. Let’s honor this time as the pivotal window it is.
