Yes. Appointments are invoiced individually and there are Medicare rebates available, please contact me for more information on pricing.
All appointments are in the comfort of your own home where I can get to know you and your family in the space you'll be birthing in.
The first appointment is mostly discussing your medical history and exploring your vision for pregnancy, birth and postpartum. The rest of your appointments are specific to your needs and may include; checking your blood pressure, measuring your belly, checking in with your physical and emotional experience of pregnancy, sharing information, learning active techniques to assist birth, and preparing for labour, birth, postpartum and motherhood.
You will be supported with your physical recovery from birth, your emotional health, your transition into a new mother, breastfeeding, newborn care and development.
I cover from Palm Cove to Gordonvale, including Kuranda. Further locations may be negotiated but travel fees will apply.
There are two payment options for homebirth;
1. A continuity of care package. Your out of pocket contribution is $6000 and, with your consent, l will claim Medicare rebates on your behalf. This includes all antenatal, labour, birth and postnatal care.
2. A pay per item option. Appointments are invoiced individually with medicare rebates available and then birth fees are due by 37 weeks gestation. This may suit you if you are booking later in your pregnancy or not wanting a full 6 weeks of postpartum care.
- I will provide all of your antenatal care from ~ 12 weeks until birth. Appointments are generally monthly until 32 weeks, fortnightly until 38 weeks and then weekly until birth. Appointments are at least an hour long and are guided by your personal needs.
- I will be on call for your birth from 37 weeks gestation.
- Labour care, birth and immediate postpartum (usually 3-4 hours after the birth) in your home.
- I will provide a second midwife for the birth (this is a legal requirement). The second midwife will attend an appointment at 36-38 weeks so you can meet prior.
- If there is a transfer to hospital I will come with you as a support person.
- Postnatal care from birth until 6 weeks gestation. Appointments are usually on day 1, 3, and 5 and then weekly if all is well. This is very flexible and may be more or less frequent depending on your personal circumstances/preferences.
- Referral forms for any pathology or ultrasounds you decide to do.
- Prescriptions for pregnancy related problems.
- A birth pool loaned to you from 37/38 weeks until birth.
